My friend Bill is moving to Australia with his family after New Year so last night he took me out for dinner to say goodbye and we went to a Japanese restaurant. That makes five that I know of in Shantou and there still isn’t a single Korean restaurant. Entrepreuneurs in the catering industry: OPEN A KOREAN RESTAURANT IN SHANTOU. People often tell me their favourite foreign food is Korean yet Shantou has not a single restaurant, what are you all doing.
Anyway, it was very nice actually. It wasn’t insanely expensive like Narita, but more expensive than the one on Changping Lu with the girl outside. Actually it’s next-door-but-one to that very restaurant. Second floor, quiet, nice service, but they charge you 2? for red tea, cheapskates.

Hi Maggie, could you tell me the exact location of this japanese restaurant??? I been to Narita, it is expensive…..Also is there any other non-chinese, non-western restaurant you knew.
Um only in relation to other places on Changping Lu. Shall have a look. It’s about half way down Changping Lu, 3/4rmb on salinger from Walmart will do it. It’s next-door-but-one to a national chain restaurant of Japanese food, another of which has just opened next to Aussino on the corner of Changping and Huashan Roads. I heard of a Korean restaurant this weekend! Research to be done soon! Other than that… There used to be a Thai one but it closed down because they moved cities…
Thanks for the reply, will look for that this weekend.
I been to that Thai restaurant several times b4 it is closed down, good restaurant that is.
By the way, there is a Brazilian BBQ restaurant on Jinshan Tong road near to the roundabout, opposite of the UBC cafe if you are interest to try.
I’ve been there! I should’ve written about it. What did you think? I find if it gets to busy then the food disappears and it’s not that great. But if you get in before the rush, it’s quite a nice meal. A nice range of dishes and I’ve never got ill from there. The soft drinks have always been flat though.
WEll I arrived at the BBQ at 5.35pm and was given a plate , utensils and a coke and told that i could help myself from the buffet. When i tried to use the buffet at 5:45 i was told that i musnt start until 6 pm. After a further 5 minute wait i decided to leave and go home for a meal instead. I did get the coke for free!
I been there only once, it is OK except that I did not managed to get the BBQ eggplant and a second helping on the chicken wing. Those are always gone before the waiter reach to my table, grrrrrh.
But I thought the food was OK for that price.
My friend has sent me a map for the Korean restaurant. See post.
I have tried the japanese restaurant besides Aussino on Sunday,… prices, services and the food quality are not bad. Think it is a direct copy of ‘Ajisen Noodles’ which is a Hong Kong chain restaurant, haha.
It is Ajisen Noodles, isn’t it?? There’s another one further down Changping Lu – that was my reference point for the original Jap rest of this post…
Ajisen Noodles is the one further down, the logo has a little girl one it, it is quite popular in Hong Kong.
The one besides Aussino logo looks very much like Ajisen’s but I think the logo is a little boy instead of girl.
