Maggie’s resignation

I think now is a good point at which to formally announce that I shall be leaving Shantou at the end of July, and not coming back. Very probably not coming back. It’s been a nice three and a half years, but the world is big and I’m going to see it!

The question is, what’s going to happen to myshantou? There’s an awful lot of information on here. Does anyone have any suggestions.

  1. All the best for your future. The blog can’t be like it’s now without your efforts. It was nice to have you!

Hopefully there will be someone like traveling and the city as much as you do.

  2. Hi Maggie, am a second generation living in Singapore, grandma had sailed several weeks to reach Singapore from Swatow.

I saw your interview on TV and must say you’re real cool. Thanks for making us Teochews proud yet again…

All the best for your future endeavours.

    Once a Teochew… forever a Teochew..

  3. Hi Maggie,

I’m an Australian uni student; I met you while I was studying in Shantou two years ago. It’s great to read about someone really enjoying what they’re doing, and wanting the world to know about it too. Your page is an extremely positive thing for Shantou.

I’m in town again now, on holidays for a few days visiting people. If you happen to be free at all next Monday or Tuesday, I’d love to catch up and hear some more about your experiences.

If not (I’m sure you’re pretty busy with only one month to go), all the best for your journeys ahead, and I hope that our paths might cross again in another time and place.

    祝你一路顺风
    Warren

  5. Hey Maggie,

John from Shantou University here, we’ve met several times over the years. I was up in Beijing this year, but will be back in Shantou next year to teach again.

I’d be happy to keep working on the website with Richard and whoever else, if you’re willing to turn over the reins a bit. I’m sure I could enlist some other teachers here as well. You’ve done such a great job, we can’t let “My Shantou” die!

    Best,

    John

  6. Hi Maggie,

Surprised to hear that you will be leaving Shantou, only weeks after visiting Singapore.

Have you found a teaching job in Singapore?
It is now an educational hub and most cosmopolitan city in Asia.

    If so, welcome to Singapore!

  7. Hi,Maggie:

  11. Aw, I’m flattered! I hadn’t seen some of these comments! I didn’t go to Singapore, I went to the north of China, and now I have left China for a while… I am in Japan (it is a NICE country, filled with NICE people, who line up, don’t cheat me, and help me when I’m stuck, although I too have opinions about their past behaviour).

    I shall be back.

  12. But yes, Singapore is GREAT, would definitely live there should the opportunity arise.
