Just got some photos from my parents. These were taken in Changping Road on the 20th April. Shantou was flooded within a few hours after a heavy rain. My dad complained about the drainage system and said it needs to be improved.
As summer is almost here, Shantou is going to enter a typhoon season. But scene like this is still rare.

grr. Does flooding like this not make someone want to improve it? During my last spring (07), we were flooded so many times – not like that, but still unacceptable in a modern city.

In September me and my wife will come here to work in the city. I lived for almost 4 years in China (BJ) between 2004 and 2007. So I am looking for friends in Shantou now.
Could you also tell me if there is a university in Shantou, where foreigners can study Chinese on full-time basis?
Great to see any photos of my ancestral hometown. My grandparents took whole family from Shantou to migrate to Malaysia. I now live in New Zealand. I plan to be in Shantou for meetings in mid September. I hope weather should be excellent. And it will be so nice to hear my own dialect again. Maybe I should come back to live in Shantou and re-discover my culture.
sad to see shantou did not pick up like other SEZ cities. Hopely the city can catch up it growth to get more tourists.
